ASTM D1275 - Corrosive Sulfur in Electrical Insulating Oils - Copper or Silver Corrosion

We perform oil testing by ASTM D1275 to detect the presence of free sulfur and corrosive sulfur compounds by putting copper or silver in contact with an oil sample under controlled conditions. Most applications for insulating oils put the oil in constant contact with metals that are subject to corrosion. Any corrosive sulfur compounds in the insulating oils will cause deterioration and corrosion in those metals, leading to mechanical failure and operating problems.

We also perform copper corrosion testing by ASTM D130ASTM D4048DIN 51811FTM 5305IP 315ISO 2160ISO 5662, and MIL-PRF-372 §4.3.2. These different test methods use different instruments or procedures or are used for certain sample types. Click on the test method number to learn more about each test.

ASTM D127 corresponds to IP 315 and ISO 5662.
